The Top 10 Things To Consider Before Launching a Business.

The Top 10 Things To Consider Before Launching a Business.

Throughout my career, I have owned three enterprises entirely, in addition to a couple others in which I am a partner. The fundamentals of starting a business are almost always the same. These are ten items that I think are crucial for anyone launching a business.

1. Avoid wasting money on unnecessary purchases. This is by itself one of the main causes of suicide. To begin with, you won't require costly computers, phone systems, office supplies, etc. You'll be shocked at how much better a two-year-old computer can function when compared to a brand-new one that costs three times as much! With your $$$$, be sincere. Here, the primary rule is to simply and swiftly turn away from anything that isn't going to help you create or protect your business, make money, or both, so that you won't be tempted to acquire it. Extravagance has no place when you're establishing a business on a tight budget. But set all of that aside and move on to point 2 if you have hundreds of thousands to spend!

2. Create a strategy outlining your goals for yourself and your company at this point in the following year. To determine what kind of marketing is necessary to reach that goal, you will need to consider things like creating a basic marketing plan. Establishing and growing a firm is similar to building a house—without a foundation, it would inevitably fall apart. Without a business plan, you wouldn't know where you're going or how to get there. Think of it as your roadmap. Give it some thought for a few hours, and if you're serious about creating a profitable business, you should be able to get serious enough to set aside some time to execute it.

3. Seek and receive advice—this is very important! This one element has the power to quickly sink you if nothing is done or acted upon! Seek the advice and assistance of experts; they can help you avoid pitfalls that you may not be aware of when you first start out (I've learned this lesson the hard way!). It's not necessary to be a hero and take on all the roles and responsibilities on your own. I hate to break it to you, but you don't know everything when you first start out. Don't make a fool of yourself by believing you do, because years later, I'm still learning new things every day.

4. Ensure that the look of your firm is consistent. Create a name for your business that accurately describes what you do so that clients will interact with you directly rather than attempting to decipher your business name. Verify that you can obtain the internet domain for the name before registering it. It's a major hassle that causes stress for both your consumer and you when you have to clarify it to everyone! You should use consistent colors and styles on your website, business cards, stationary, and other materials.

5. Make the correct hiring decisions. If you work in retail, for example, choose to recruit a person with personality over someone with skills. You can teach someone how to take money and other practical abilities, but you cannot teach people skills. Obviously, skills are more necessary if you require someone for accounts or administrative work when they aren't working directly with customers.

6. Build your company on the ways in which you can benefit your clients. You'd be shocked at how much your company will expand if you cater to the wants of your "ideal" client AND take care of them consistently.

7. Recognize, comprehend, and maintain relationships with clients you WANT to work with. This will not only make your business more enjoyable, but the clients will also love working with you because you're always happy! Happy clients translate into more business, recommendations, and lower advertising and marketing costs!

8. Organize yourself. For heaven's sake, nobody likes to be surrounded by people who are constantly making excuses for their disarray, lack of organization, failure to follow through, lack of implementation, poor communication, tardiness, etc. Get yourself some reliable and powerful business support solutions so you can execute your tasks correctly each and every time.

9. Never go above your budget; instead, work WITHIN it. Being conservative with your spending will prevent you from going under before you know it. It is terrible to think things like "Oh we'll get more money in, it'll be right, or oh such as such is expected to pay this month" or similar things. You're playing with fire, and you'll be busy enough without adding to your worries and pressure by signing leases or contracts based on predicted income.

10. Delegate the tasks you dislike or aren't competent at. Admittedly, I detest administrative work. However, my meticulous nature demands that everything be organized, allowing me to focus on my creative endeavors. Hence, it was simpler, faster, and more effective for me and my company to outsource it to someone who WAS excited about doing it rather than learning how to do accounting in MYOB and putting off filing for days after I gave both a go. They love what they do, which is why they not only complete the task in a fraction of the time but also do it properly!

Of course, I could go on forever because there's always more to learn in the world of business, but these 10 should definitely get you started.

One other thing: if you're not enjoying what you're doing, it's time to change occupations because you're undoubtedly in the wrong game!

May You Have Many Successes!
